Hello JK Korean learners! 👋
Have you ever come across a Korean expression that made no sense when translated word-for-word? 🤔
In this episode of 「이 한국어 통역 되나요?」, we’re taking a closer look at Korean slang and expressions that can be confusing if you only look at their literal meanings. 💬
You might already know some of these words, but did you know they can also be used in completely different ways?
👉 꺼드럭대다 — when someone acts overly proud or superior 👉 킹받다 — when something is annoyingly ridiculous 👉 억까 — when someone unfairly criticizes or attacks you 👉 긁히다 — when someone’s words hit a sensitive spot 👉 현타 오다 — when you suddenly come back to reality 👉 찐 — when something is genuine or the real deal
Although these expressions may look confusing at first, their meanings become much clearer when you understand the context and nuance behind them. 👀
For example, 킹받다 doesn’t simply mean “to be angry,” and 긁히다 doesn’t mean getting physically scratched. Their meanings depend on how and when they are used. 🔎
So, when you come across unfamiliar Korean slang, don’t just translate the words literally. Sometimes, you need to understand the word, the context, and the vibe behind the expression.
