[이 한국어 통역 되나요?] EP.04: “ㅋㅋ” “ㅎㅎ” “ㅠㅠ” What Do They REALLY Mean? 👀

조인어스코리아 2026. 9. 10. 17:00

Hello JK Korean learners! 👋
Have you ever received a Korean message like “ㅋㅋㅋ”, “ㅎㅎ”, or “ㅠㅠ” and wondered what it actually meant? 👀

If you’ve ever learned Korean, you probably know that

ㅋㅋ is often used to express laughter,

while ㅠㅠ looks like crying.

But what about ㅎㅎ?

And why do Koreans sometimes add ㅋㅋ to a sentence that doesn’t seem funny at all? 🤔

In Korean texting, these expressions can do much more than simply show laughter or tears.

Their meaning can change depending on the situation, relationship, and the way they are used. 💬

So sometimes:

👉 ㅋㅋ can mean “LOL” or make a message feel more playful or casual.
👉 ㅎㅎ can make a message feel softer, warmer, or more friendly.
👉 ㅠㅠ can express sadness, frustration, sympathy, or even a dramatic reaction.

And even the number of characters can change the feeling!
ㅋㅋ and ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ don’t always feel exactly the same. 👀

In the fourth episode of 「이 한국어 통역 되나요?」, we’re taking a closer look at ㅋㅋ, ㅎㅎ, and ㅠㅠ and the emotions hidden behind these everyday Korean texting expressions.

🌎 What do people use to express laughter or emotions when texting in your country?
🤔 Have you ever been confused by ㅋㅋ, ㅎㅎ, or ㅠㅠ?
💬 Which one do you use most often?

Ready to understand Korean beyond translation? 🚀

함께해주셔서 감사합니다! 🙆‍♀️❣️
