Last winter, I traveled the United Kingdom with my family. The United Kingdom is made up of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The UK is a very small island, located off of mainland Europe. Today, however with the completion of the tunnel, Britain was linked to continental Europe. The United Kingdom is the 22nd- most populous country, with an estimated 64.1 million inhabitants. London is the capital of England. Its climate can be described as temperate maritime climate. Also, England is famous for its rain and the lush green of its countryside. It is a constitutional monarchy. The monetary unit of England is the pound. Now, Let's look at the UK, the empire on which the sun never set!
1.Elizabeth Tower & Big ben
The Elizabeth Tower named in tribute to Queen Elizabeth in her Diamond Jubilee year. It is more popularly known as Big ben. It was raised a part of Charles Barry's design for a new palace. Big ben is the clock that is at the end of the Palace of Westminster in London. A lot of tourists from all over the world used to flock on the banks of the River Thames to see the Palace of Westminster and to hear the chimes of Big ben, as the bell is known, although its real name is the Great Bell. Diameter of the bell is about 273cm, weight is 13.5t and height is 165m. The Elizabeth Tower catches the attention of many people on New Year's Day like Bosingak Pavilion in Korea.
2. Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge is called as the landmark in London with Big ben. The bridge was completed in 1894. It is combined bascule bridge(draw bridge that let vessels pass) and suspension bridge in London which crosses the River Thames. The bridge is made up of two towers tied together at the upper level by menas of two horizontal walkways. The bridge's present colour scheme dates form 1977, when it was painted red, white and blue for Queen Elizabeth's silver jubilee. Today, as the number of vessels is decreasing, the bridge opens only 200times a year.
3. Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is a large church in London. It is mainly Gothic church in the city of Westminster. It is one of the most remarkable religious building in the United Kingdom and has been the traditional place of coronation and burial site for a lot of politicians, artists, scientists and monarchs of the UK. The church was built by Henry. Admission is £16 for adults, £13 for students and free for children under 11.
